Patrons who wish to use the library’s electronic resources must:
- Be a patron in good standing of Pontiac Public Library, or
- Possess a valid library card in good standing from another Illinois library, or
- Live outside of the State of Illinois and present a valid picture ID with current address, and
- Read our Electronic Use Policy and Internet Use Policy and register with the library’s Circulation Department prior to use. Patrons under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian register for them; and
- Have no outstanding library fees or fines equal to or greater than $5.00, and
- Obey all requests from staff members regarding the use of computers. Failure to do so may result in the loss or suspension of privileges.
Computer Etiquette
- Please keep your eyes on your own screen.
- Only one person is allowed at any one computer at a time.
- Bags, strollers and carriers may not block the aisles.
- Food and drink are not allowed in any library area.
- Cell phone ringers must be kept to vibrate and all cell phone conversations must be conducted outside.
- Patrons are responsible for basic computer skills.
- Headphone volume should not be audible to other patrons.
Time Limits
- The library uses a PC Reservation System which requires that a valid library card be presented. Sessions cannot be made without a valid library card.
- Computer availability is on a first come first serve basis. No advance registrations will be made.
- Requests for assignment to specific computers are not accepted.
- Local and in-state Illinois patrons are guaranteed a minimum of two (2) hours for public computer use.
- Out of state visitors are guaranteed 30 minutes only.
Printing
- Fifteen cents per page in black/white on a high quality laser printer.
- Patrons are responsible for any mistakes, errors, or duplicate pages printed, as the library does not provide refunds.
- Patrons may not use their own paper.
Saving Files
- Patrons may save files to preformatted removable memory/storage devices such as floppy disks, CD-R and CD-RW disks, and flash drives.
- The library is not responsible for loss of data and physical damage to personal disks and/or storage devices while using the library’s public computers.
- Patrons must adhere to all United States copyright laws.
Software
Patrons may not install software on public computers.
Wireless Access
The Library provides free wireless access to the Internet for users with a wireless enabled computer. There is no login or password required. Printing to a Pontiac Public Library printer is not available from a laptop.
